Sex workers in Tamil Nadu, a southern Indian state, are taking karate lessons as a self defense measure against violent pimps and customers.

According to BBC News, The Indian Welfare Organisation is providing training free of charge in order to help these women protect themselves from abuse. These prostitutes are not only forced to have unprotected sex by sadistic customers, but they also get robbed of their money by their greedy pimps on an almost daily basis.

About 75 women attended the first course in the coastal city of Madras.
