A study on the sexual activities of U.S. teenagers covering the period between 2003 and 2007 revealed that there is no change in teen sex rate but the use of contraceptives has gone lower. This is compared to the progress made in reducing teen pregnancy and childbearing in the 1990s and early 2000s.

According to Dr. John S. Santelli of the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, in conjunction with researchers at Guttmacher Institute, the reversal in contraceptive use is consistent with increases in the teen birth rate in 2006 and 2007 as reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The study is scheduled to be published in the July issue of the Journal of Adolescent Health.
